Myopia Management

Myopia, also called nearsightedness or shortsightedness, refers to the inability to see images or objects clearly unless they’re positioned close to the eyes. Myopia is an extremely common condition. In fact, it is among the most frequently diagnosed eye conditions, particularly in children and younger adults.

It’s important to note that myopia poses more than just an inconvenience. It can also threaten a person’s long-term vision. If not properly addressed, myopia can eventually lead to the development of a number of serious ocular issues later in life, including retinal detachment, macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts. Fortunately, the myopia management services at Redding Eyecare Center can help!

What is myopia?

Myopia occurs when the eye grows too long from front to back. This causes light to focus in front of the retina rather than directly onto it. For people with myopia, distant objects will appear blurry while nearby objects will be clearer.

Myopia typically develops during the childhood years, as this is when the eyes tend to experience the most significant growth. As time goes by, the condition will usually continue to progress and worsen through the teenage years, sometimes gradually, other times rapidly. Thankfully, myopia can be managed through the use of prescription glasses or contact lenses.

What is myopia control?

Managing myopia involves a series of treatment methods designed to slow the condition’s rate of progression. This is done by inducing changes to the structure of the eye. Treatment can also help to alleviate the stress and fatigue that is often associated with myopia.

Once a personalized treatment plan is in place, we will continue to monitor and measure results every 6-12 months to ensure maximum efficacy. Any modifications deemed necessary will be implemented accordingly.

Contact Redding Eyecare Center today and see how myopia management can help you or your child experience clearer, sharper vision and a better quality of life.
