LASIK Co-Management

LASIK surgery is the most common refractive eye surgery performed today. It is used to correct several ocular conditions, including myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism. Redding Eyecare Center is pleased to offer LASIK co-management as part of our extensive line of advanced vision care services.

What is LASIK

Short for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, LASIK is performed by a trained ophthalmologist and involves the use of a laser to reshape the cornea in order to improve visual acuity. For most patients, LASIK surgery provides a permanent, corrective alternative to wearing glasses or contact lenses. Best of all, LASIK is quick, painless, and produces dramatic results. Most patients report seeing 20/20 within just 24 hours of undergoing the procedure.

Who can get LASIK surgery?

The ideal candidate for LASIK procedures is over the age of 21 and has relatively healthy eyes with adequate corneal thickness. This is important because the LASIK process requires the removal of tissue from the cornea to reshape the eye. For this reason, individuals with conditions like corneal disease, chronic dry eye or other abnormalities may not be good candidates for LASIK. To be certain, a comprehensive eye exam is required.

About the LASIK Procedure

LASIK surgery is performed as an out-patient procedure at a local surgical center. Patients undergoing LASIK can expect the procedure to last approximately one hour. The actual surgery takes approximately 15 minutes per eye.

LASIK Recovery

Postoperative care may be performed by an eye doctor other than your LASIK surgeon. This is referred to as LASIK co-management. The team at Redding Eyecare Center is happy to provide this service at our office through a co-management agreement with your surgeon. Feel free to contact us for more information.

Post-LASIK Eye Care

Even if you achieve perfect vision from your surgery, it’s still important to have your eyes examined by an experienced eye care professional at least once a year. This allows us to ensure that your recovery goes as planned and your vision remains stable.

Get in touch today to schedule your post-LASIK exam and let us help you manage your eyesight effectively. Not a patient of Redding Eyecare Center? No problem. We are happy to serve as a referral practice for your LASIK co-management needs. Contact our office today to get started.
